The holidays are a perfect opportunity for some recline and red wine - the best company for this, of course, are some classic Christmas movies. We have a mix of both family favourites to a few festive wild cards that are definitely worth a try.

-Love Actually is a film that we are itching to watch every year, it simply never gets old, in fact, we would argue it ages as well as Hugh Grant or a vintage cheddar. Pulling on all the heartstrings with tears shed listening to Joni Mitchell, unstoppable laughs with Bill Nighy’s naughty antics and so much more. This 2003 is a seasonal icon, worth a 17th watch for sure.

- Keeping on the rom-com convoy,The Holiday is again, utterly loveable. You can’t go wrong combining a hysterically British Kate Winslet and a cheeky Jack Black, not to mention a particularly charming version of Jude Law.... the cross over off four lives in simultaneous heartache leads to connections when least expected. We have to say though that Cameron Diaz singing along (after a few wines) to Mr Brightside in a tiny Cotswold cottage is gold.

- OK, this one is inevitable but it wouldn’t BE Christmas without a littleHome Alone action (and yes, we are talking about the OG). It is the quintessential family film that has stood the test of time and credit to it, the real question is what did Mr McCallister do for a living to be able to fly out his entire family to Paris?

- Not your typical Christmas movie but a valid candidate in our must-see list.Edward Scissorhands is arguably one of Tim Burton’s best. A gothic yet romantic pastel daydream, Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder share an unconventional intimacy. It is a tale of two worlds merging, causing both harmony and catastrophe within a community, demonstrating just how complicated it can be to be a human being.

- An 80’s take on the original 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol,Scroogedis an often forgotten gem. The film follows a grumpy and cynical Bill Murray (sporting some seriously big hair) as he wades his way through his least favourite season, but after several mysterious encounters a bit of perspective and faith is restored, ultimately leading to a happy ending. It’s basically a Christmas Ghostbusters, what’s not to like?
